Five Reasons To Read Five Flavors Of Dumb (Review)

Hey Readers,

I meant to write a post like this ages ago, but with this newly reinvented awesome blog (which is so pretty, I can hardly stop looking at it), now's the time to talk about Five Flavors Of Dumb by Anthony John.

I'm just gonna say it: I ♥ this cover!!!
It came out on the eleventh of last month (November), but I was suuuuuuuuuper lucky enough to read it before then! I won an ARC of it in a giveaway in October (my very first ARC of a book that hasn't come out yet! Coolness!), and it was signed personally for me by Antony himself :D

Yeah, needless to say, it is sooo completely awesome. ♥♥♥ Plus, I'd been wanting the book for forever, so, you know, that's a plus. LOL

I read it in TWO DAYS. I would've read it faster, but I just didn't want it to end! Mostly I was outside on my back porch most of the time, because I remember the weather was really lovely, and that's rare here in Florida. (Ha!)

You guys, OMG. If ever there was a book you'd absolutely HAVE to read, it would be this one. I think this seriously is the best book of 2010. I mean, really. Let me give you a summary first, so you'll know what it's about....

(From the back of the book)
THE CHALLENGE: Piper has one month to get a paying gig for Dumb—the hottest new rock band in school.

THE DEAL: If she does it, she'll become manager of the band and get her share of the profits, which she desperately needs since her parents raided her college fund.

THE CATCH: Managing one egomaniacal pretty boy, one talentless piece of eye candy, one crush, one silent rocker, and one angry girl who is ready to beat her up. And doing it all when she's deaf.

With growing self-confidence, an unexpected romance, and a new understanding of her family's decision to buy a cochlear implant for her deaf baby sister, Piper just may discover her own inner rock star.

I'm sorry, but if that does not sound amazing and inspiring to you, you must be crazy. Just saying.

So, onto the REASONS you must read this book... (Minor spoilers ahead!)

Reason 1:

Piper. She is the coolest person EVER. Smart, witty, and that one fictional character you wished would be your best friend in real life. I wanted to hug her, for being so awesome and inspiring, and at the sad moments when she needed one.

Reason 2:

The music. I love the little history lessons about Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain, and how they visit their homes and everything. Gah, that was just so cool! (And it makes me want my older brother to read this book even more, but noooo. He doesn't like to read, dang it, lol.) And I love how much you learn about music in general--just so, so cool. <3

Reason 3:

The relationship between Piper and her family. I thought every fight scene with them, or just a scene with them in general was really touching. And sad. Finn was really cool, and I loved him when he was with Piper because he's an awesome brother. And Grace? I totally sympathized with Piper, and how she felt about Grace being able to hear...Man, those scenes were so good! And Piper and her parents...those parts were tough, I have to say. So glad it was resolved the way it was :)

Reason 4:

Dumb! Okay, the band is named Dumb, lol, I'm not saying it's dumb, because it's not! The band...I really liked how they all meshed together, they're relationships with each other, their different personalities. They were awesome. Tash, Ed, Will, Josh and Kallie. Will didn't talk much, and Josh...well, he was a TOTAL jerk, but everyone else was awesome! Kallie is way awesome, ditto for Tash...and Ed was adorable ♥ Love, love him. And that part with Piper at the end...in a certain coffee shop...SO CUTE! And every moment with them after was so good. And how he learned sign language for her....Gahhh I love it :D

Reason 5:

The writing! Antony does a fantastic job of writing, not to mention of writing through a first person point of view of a GIRL. Because, obviously, Antony is not a girl, lol. I don't know why, but I always find stuff like that impressive. Anyway, his writing is spot-on with the emotions, the witty comments...Love it all!

Okay, so I kind of suck at coming up with reasons, but OMG YOU GUYS. This needs to be the next book that you read. I bet it's even prettier in hardcover (my ARC is in paperback of course, and I haven't gotten the chance to see it in stores!)!

So...yeah. This is going to go down as one of my top favorite books of ever, and that's saying something, people. I might actually have to re-read it more than once a year. And, again, definitely book of the year! :)

Hope you like this new post and book review, and I'm gonna go now, but before I leave...I must remind you of my GIVEAWAY! Check out this official post for details....and if you tell people about it you get TEN EXTRA POINTS! Okay, so there are no points, but you'd totally be awesome :D

Blog to you soon!
